The Grey Squirrel is an attractive, appealing and entertaining animal that is a welcome addition to the garden and is often seen as a fun guest to have. In other circumstances it can be a serious problem and can be a fire risk and cause damage to wiring etc within properties. Grey Squirrels will readily inhabit lofts, attics and roof spaces as well as outbuildings and can of course cause issues when they access these areas.ย Please note the Red Squirrel is a fully protected species in the UK.
How will I know if I have Squirrels.
Signs of their presence will be scratching noises and droppings. However, these can be mistaken for rat droppings so Invicta would recommend one of our professional technicians should inspect to make sure of the species.
Often people first suspect damage from this species when lights go out due to damaged wiring or holes are noticed in fascia or soffit boards. They are also VERY noisy in your loft if you have them. Expect to be woken fairly early!
How can you control Squirrels
Invicta recommend an exclusion survey is completed to humanely remove them from the areas they have gained access. Generally if this canโt be completed then a trapping program can be completed to reduce numbers and protect your property.
