Signs Of A Wasp Nest
There are some key indicators that you have a nest present in your home include:
- Spotting a wasp nest is the number one indicator that you have a problem.
- You’re seeing a significant number of wasps in or around your property.
- Wasps gravitate towards specific areas or rooms in your home.
If you find a wasp nest, please do not approach without a bee-keeping suit. Wasps are very aggressive during summer and will attack in numbers if you disturb the nest.
How To Get Rid Of A Wasp Nest
Many people are severely allergic to wasp, hornet and bee stings, and if you’ve never been stung, you won’t know if you are. Therefore, there is no circumstance where we recommend anyone try treating a wasp nest themselves.
Our wasp nest removal Durham team provides pest control services to the following areas in the North East: Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Gateshead, Darlington, Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees, South Shields, Washington, Tynemouth, Jarrow, Durham, Wallsend, Redcar, Whitley Bay, Chester Le Street, Blyth, Billingham and all surrounding North East areas.
At Invicta, we’d always recommend that a professional pest control company conducts wasp treatments due to the risks involved. We complete treatments in a controlled manner with specialist access and application equipment, and nests are usually completely dead within a few hours following our treatments. Our team can carry this work out as part of our commercial pest control services or provide a one-off treatment for homes across the North East.

When Do Wasps Nest?
Wasps will typically nest in the early spring, moving into the summer. First, a queen will seek a suitable location to nest before making her nest. Next, a wasp nest will start small, with a structure usually the size of a golf ball. Then, over the following weeks, the queen will lay eggs that pupate into infertile male worker drones.
At this point, a wasp nest will rapidly grow into the size of a football and even more significant in some cases. You must act early if you’ve noticed a wasp nest in or around your home. The longer you leave it, the larger the nest will become and by the end of the summer, the nest could be as large as a washing machine containing over 10,000 wasps.
Frequently asked questions
If you decide to leave a wasp nest, you will continue to be tormented by the colony. Gardens often become unusable, and you’ll be unable to enjoy the summer months peacefully. Furthermore, if you have children or pets, you’re putting them at risk of being stung.
Our wasp nest removal services are competitively priced, and we provide a bespoke cost to every customer. If you have multiple wasp nests that need treating, we’ll notify you on the day we carry out the pest control treatment. Contact us to receive a no-obligation quote for the work.
During the winter, wasp colonies will die off due to a lack of food. Out of the entire colony, only one wasp will survive: the queen. She will find a tree or a sheltered place to hibernate before emerging when the weather picks up to try to restart her colony.
North East based councils often struggle with the volume of wasp nests through the summer and old fashioned practices like not accessing lofts can lead to poor application and treatment. Invicta only use state of the art insecticides that are the most effective treatment available with the least impact on the environment.
